RELIGION AND POLITICS? |
They are two different aspects in life that have a great influence in man’s life. Religion and politics: the question remains should the two be mixed. The two are motivated by different concepts and principles in life, but both claim to be the solution to man’s problems. The bible says do not kill, yet priests pray for soldiers before going to war. War can be said to be a product of politics, still I ask should the two be mixed. In the churches, the politicians proclaim their propaganda at the pulpit. The hungry congregation has gathered for some spiritual nourishment, but what to they get? Rich politicians, preaching their own ideas and making empty promises; politicians who are busy accusing and condemning each other, trying to justify their actions and show how “selfless” they each are; trying to make a name for themselves so as to get more votes in the next election. If they are really religious why do they only display it on Sunday? The pseudo-religious politicians, their actions are so different from their words. I still ask should religion and politics be mixed. Most of man problems have been brought about by politics. Religion on the other hand is supposed to bring solace to men facing these problems. Talk about bad economy, talk about the price increase even in the basic needs, talk about unemployment and poverty, talk about terrorism, talk about civil war, talk about hunger that has been there for years, and for every year the government makes promises, that the next year there will be more prepared when these natural calamities strike. Is politics the solution to man’s problems? If not, what is this power it has that man keeps turning to it to solve their problems, or is it due to the fact that man is known to associate himself to what he is familiar with and what he can see. I mean religion like politics is full of promises and hope; the only difference is that in politics the people can see their leaders, those in power, and those with the money. In religion the people have to believe that there is a super natural being that will soon redeem them of their problems. It’s hard to believe in that which you cannot see or physically associate with. It requires what they call, faith. The leaders are just humans like everyone else they have a heart that can stop like everyone else. That is how they are created they can only beat for a certain period of time and this is a function of your health, ceteris paribus. The better your health, the longer your beating period. They don’t have the power of everlasting life. Wouldn’t you rather believe on a supernatural being? I mean so far, politics has never lived to its word, so why still believe it. Politics and religion should never be mixed. Politics spoils the image of religion. They are two different concepts in life that if analyzed in detail, one will realize how deeply contradictory they are. They are not complements of each other. One is always dirty the other is ever clean. As Marx and the Marxists, say religion offers solace to the trodden, it soothes their pain and distress, allows them to continue surviving in this world that is ruled by political leaders. Even the laws of what is right and wrong in society are decided by those with political power. |
